VanDemark & Lynch, Inc. helped Sanford School implement its Master Plan starting in 1999 and continuing until 2006. The master plan included installing new roadways, parking lots, walkways, and athletic fields, and replacing several existing buildings. Improvements were designed to enhance the facilities used by the school community while reducing conflicts between pedestrians and vehicular traffic, improving the safety of the buildings, and providing better access for emergency equipment.
In 2007 Sanford installed a Green Roof on one of its existing buildings. VanDemark & Lynch helped Sanford document the status of the roof and site facilities so that the new roof could be “banked” as stormwater management towards a future project. With the installation of this Green Roof, Sanford has a significant head-start on the design of its next facility improvement.
Sanford School is located on a beautiful campus with rolling hills, ponds, and streams. These natural features are protected resources that run throughout the campus. All site design honored these protected resources as well as the history of the campus. Our site designs for this campus have included multiple Green Technology Stormwater Best Management Practices, which are being used as educational tools for the students. We are proud of the fact that after the completion of the Master Plan’s first phases, which required extensive disturbance to the campus, the feeling on the campus is as though nothing had changed.
