To continue to provide adequate facilities and opportunities for the youth of Hockessin to play soccer, the Hockessin Soccer Club entered into a long-term lease agreement with New Castle County for an 18-acre parcel on Evanson Road in Hockessin. The parcel was developed into a soccer complex with a Delaware Greenways walking trail. The existing parcel was a farmette with a small house, small out-buildings and a pasture. Little Mill Creek, which is bordered by wetlands and floodplain, meanders through the south end of the site.
VanDemark & Lynch was selected to provide the surveying and civil engineering to design soccer fields and parking facilities for the site. We provided topographic and property surveys, including resolving a disputed property line, located underground sanitary sewer and water lines, and located wetlands delineated on the site. We also prepared the required record and construction plans in accordance with New Castle County and State regulations and presented the plans at numerous public hearings and meetings. The site design minimizes conflicts between pedestrians and vehicular traffic and promotes a positive impact on the surrounding properties. The soccer field design allows reconfiguration of field sizes for different age groups and to extend the life of the turf.
The site plans include a sprinkler system, landscaping, a Greenways Trail, a pedestrian boardwalk over a drainage way, and a bio-filtration swale for stormwater quality management. The project also includes construction within the flood plain; requiring a study of the construction’s impact on the Little Mill Creek floodway. Our design also included approval of the site’s new driveway entrance and parking lot. We provided project cost estimates, construction specifications, bidding documents, construction administration and review, and contractor payment authorizations.
After this project was completed, we were asked to redesign one of the fields with artificial turf. This field has also been successfully completed.
