To provide cancer patients with a dedicated facility, where their unique needs could be met in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, Christiana Care Health Services decided to construct a two story, 60,000 square foot, stand-alone Cancer Center in the northwest corner of the Christiana Hospital campus, adjacent to an existing pond, with dedicated parking, circulation drives, and a service area.
VanDemark & Lynch, Inc. provided planning, surveying, and civil engineering, including a topographic survey, with a hydrographic survey of the pond and it’s outlet control structures, design of access roads, parking lots, sidewalks, handicapped access, utility connections, and the service area. VanDemark & Lynch, Inc. provided plans and reports required by County and State regulations and technical specifications for the project manual. The design was complicated by existing
underground gas and fiber optic lines, which required close integration of new underground utilities and other site features.
VanDemark & Lynch, Inc. assisted the Landscape Architect to integrate, enlarge, and reconfigure the pond into an extensive array of gardens, walkways, meditative and contemplative areas, fountains, and patios.
